Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS â The two-time defending CHL champion Memphis RiverKings, tied for the lead in the Northern Conference wild card race, will look to secure their own destiny over the course of a crucial three-game, regular season-closing home stand.
Memphis will host division-leading Bossier-Shreveport this Friday at 7:05 PM. The following night, the Indianapolis Ice invade the DeSoto Civic Center to take on the RiverKings. Then on Sunday at 3:05 PM, Memphis wraps up its regular season with a contest against the Tulsa Oilers.
The RiverKings enter this weekend's action with a record of 34-23-4, their 72 points placing them in a tie for the wild card lead with the Wichita Thunder as of Tuesday afternoon. The Indianapolis Ice sit one point back, and the New Mexico Scorpions are a full seven points back. Wichita, Indianapolis and New Mexico all have a game in hand on the RiverKings, a situation that will cease to exist on Tuesday night, when all three teams engage in action.
The equation is simple for the RiverKings: Win all three games in regulation and they qualify for the CHL playoffs automatically. Should the RiverKings win all three games and Wichita only wins two of their four remaining games, then Memphis would take the top wild card spot.
The RiverKings must finish at least one point ahead of either Wichita or Indianapolis to qualify for the playoffs, since both teams hold tiebreakers over Memphis.
An in-depth look at the playoff picture and the RiverKings will be available on RiverKings Weekly, airing Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00 PM on SportsPlus 790. Hosted this week by Forrest Goodman and Galen Clavio, RiverKings Weekly will feature Memphis head coach Mark Richards, selected players, and CHL Vice President of Communications Steve Cherwonak.
All 64 RiverKings games can be heard on Easy 680 AM, as well as worldwide via SportsJuice.com. RiverKings games can also be heard inside the DeSoto Civic Center on FM frequency 107.9 FM.
