LAREDO, Texas â The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs ended the Laredo Bucks CHL record 21-game home win streak with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Mudbugs scored three power play goals as they picked up their 41st win. For the first time this year the Bucks have suffered back-to-back losses as they drop to 48-8-6. The Mudbugs capitalized on an early power play chance. Defenseman Craig Minard slipped a pass in front that forward Jason Campbell tipped by Bucks goalie Marco Emond at 3:05 to make it 1-0 Bossier-Shreveport. The physical first period featured nine combined power play chances and three separate fights.
The Bucks began the second period by killing off a Mudbugs power play opportunity. With the teams back to even strength forward James Hiebert worked a pass ahead to forward Jeff Bes who went in on a breakaway and slipped the puck five-hole on Mudbugs goalie Jeff Blair at 3:36 to tie the game. It was the 38th of the year for Bes. Just 60 seconds later the Mudbugs retook the lead 2-1 as defenseman Jason Basile ripped home a slap shot from the right wall at 4:46.
In the third period the Mudbugs capitalized twice on the power play to seal the win. Forward Craig Soke scored at 7:04 during a two-man advantage and then Chris Brassard tallied at 18:04 to complete the scoring. FINAL SCORE Bossier-Shreveport 4, Laredo 1.
Emond allowed four goals on 35 shots as he fell to 22-4-2. Blair stopped 30 of 31 shots to improve to 19-9-2 as he became just the fourth goalie to beat the Bucks twice this season. The Mudbugs were 3-14 on the power play while the Bucks went 0-8.
