SOUTHAVEN, MS – The Memphis RiverKings and the Central Hockey League are pleased to announce that Don Parsons has been named CHL Man of the Year for the 2003-04 season.

Parsons, a two-time recipient of the CHL's Most Valuable Player award, will be presented with the Man of the Year award at this Saturday's game against the Indianapolis Ice.

The CHL's Man of the Year award is presented annually to the CHL player adjudged to have best exemplified strong leadership qualities on and off the ice, while making significant and noteworthy humanitarian contributions to his community.

"When considering several outstanding candidates to receive this year's honor, Don's significant and tangible contributions of time and effort to so many worthwhile causes made him a natural selection," said Central Hockey League President Brad Treliving. "We commend his substantial efforts on many levels to aid those less fortunate and congratulate him as an outstanding representative of our organization."

"It's a pretty cool honor to be named Man of the Year by the league," said Parsons. "This community has been great to me and my family, and great to this organization."

Parsons' community involvement is wide-ranging, touching many facets of the Mid-South community. From his work with the Lymphoma/Leukemia Society and the Memphis Oral School for the Deaf, to the Jr. StreetKings/Jr. RiverKings youth hockey leagues he helps to run, Parsons has tried to give back to the community he feels has been so good to him.

"I've tried to put a lot of work in to help the community, because I think it's important to give back," Parsons said. "I think that as a professional athlete, it's your duty and responsibility to try and make a positive difference in people's lives."

Other charities and charitable causes that Parsons has been involved in include the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Palmer Home for children, LeBonheur Children's Medical Center, DeSoto Sunrise, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Parson's Pledge.

Parsons will be presented with the CHL Man of the Year award this Saturday, March 13th prior to the game versus the Indianapolis Ice.

The award is the fifth that Parsons has received from the Central Hockey League during his career. In addition to being named CHL Most Valuable Player in 2001-02 and 2002-03, Parsons was named Playoff Most Valuable Player in 2001-02, and was given the Joe Burton Award for most points scored in the 2000-01 season.

Parsons and the RiverKings will be back in action this Friday, March 12, as they look to move closer to a CHL playoff berth with a win versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. The game will start at 7:05 PM CST at the DeSoto Civic Center.
