Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS – The Memphis RiverKings of the Central Hockey League are pleased to announce that starting goaltender Jean-Francois Racine has been called up by the St. John's Maple Leafs, the team's AHL affiliate.

Racine, a third-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, has spent the last two seasons with the RiverKings. This past season, Racine overcame injury problems early in the year and finished with a record of 15-10-2, while posting a goals against average of 2.70 and a save percentage of .914. Racine started every game for the RiverKings over the last six weeks of the season, recording two shutouts in the process.

In his first year with the RiverKings, Racine posted an impressive 22-9-3 record with a 2.75 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

RiverKings head coach Mark Richards, who played goaltender alongside Racine during the 2002-03 season, feels that the call-up is a great opportunity for a player that deserves it.

"Racine played very well for us down the stretch," said Richards. "He kept us in the playoff race, and he definitely deserves a chance with St. John's. I hope he gets the chance to show them what he can do."

Racine could see action with the Baby Leafs as early as Tuesday, March 16, when St. John's takes on the Rochester Americans.

The RiverKings will take to the ice in late October for the 2004-05 season, as the team looks to earn a playoff berth for the fourth time in the last five years. Information on the RiverKings, including the latest roster moves, press releases, and pictures, is available at www.riverkings.com.

Season tickets for the 2004-05 season are now available for purchase and renewal. For more information, contact the RiverKings at (662) 342-1755.
