CHL Names Bauer/Nike Player of the Week, Vaughn Goaltender of the Week

Player of the Week and Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week awards for the final week of the CHL regular season. Tulsa forward Todd Marcellus has earned Player of the Week honors with four multiple point outings, while Rio Grande Valley rookie netminder Jacque Vezina has been selected as Goaltender of the Week following two outstanding road outings.
Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, Marcellus and the Oilers thrived in a spoiler role to conclude the last week of CHL regular season play, winning their final four contests. Marcellus proved to be the difference in each contest, recording at least a goal and an assist in wins over Wichita, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth and Memphis. Marcellus finishes the season with 29 goals, 45 assists and 74 points, and tied for 15th in the CHL scoring race. In the recently completed CHL "Best of the Best" poll, Marcellus was selected as the CHL's "Smartest Player."
Rio Grande Valley rookie netminder Jacque Vezina came up with two quality performances for the playoff-bound Killer Bees this week. In a preview of a CHL Southern Conference Semi-Final playoff matchup on March 12th, he made 33 saves and stopped nine of 11 shots in the shootout as the Killer Bees posted a 3-2 win in Laredo. The following night, he earned his fourth shutout of the season with a 29 save performance in a 6-0 win at Corpus Christi. A product of the University of Wisconsin River Falls, Vezina concludes his first season of
professional play with a record of 7-7-3, a save percentage of .914 and a goals against average of 2.49.
