
Shutouts and Sellouts Leads to CHL Honors

BEES RECEIVE INDIVIDUAL HONORS ON AND OFF THE ICE
JACQUE VEZINA AND GRANT BUCKBOROUGH HONORED BY CHL
HIDALGO, TX: March 15, 2004 â The Central Hockey League today awarded the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week honor to Killer Bees goaltender Jacque Vezina and the CHL Employee of the Month award to Killer Bees Assistant GM / Dir. of Ticket Operations Grant Buckborough.
Vezina (vuh-zee-nuh) played in two games during last week's play and went 2-0-0 with a 0.96 GAA and a 96.9% save percentage. The Hudson, Wisconsin native stopped 33 of 35 shots last Friday night in Laredo and stopped 9 of 11 shootout attempts in overtime to garner the win between the pipes. The following night in Corpus Christi, Vezina stopped all 25 shots on goal for his fourth shutout of the season, which gave the Killer Bees a CHL co-leading 8 shutouts on the season. Vezina's four shutouts tied for third in the league and co-led CHL rookie goaltenders. He closed out the season with a 7-7-3 record with a 2.49 GAA and a 91.4% save percentage. The award was the first for Vezina and the third for a Killer Bees goaltender this season.
Buckborough (buck-ber-oh) claims his first CHL Employee of the Month award of the season. He oversees the ticket operations of the Killer Bees and the Bees closed out the home regular season schedule with five consecutive sellouts. The ticket department averaged 1,929 in groups per game for the final eight home games of the regular season. As the ticket department transitioned their sales to playoff tickets, they were also completing the sale of 2,000 season tickets for the arenafootball2's Rio Grande Valley Dorados franchise. The Bees closed out the regular season ranking fourth in the league in average attendance (5,114), overall attendance (163,671) and accumulated 12 sellouts.
The Bees return to action Friday night in Laredo to open up postseason play and the best-of-five Round 1 of the CHL Southern Conference Playoffs. Individual playoff tickets for Games 3 (March 27th) and Game 4 (if necessary on March 28th) to be played at the Dodge Arena are currently available at all Dodge Arena ticket outlets.
