RiverKings End Eagles Streak in 5-4 Win

SOUTHAVEN, Miss.- The Colorado Eagles 15-game winning streak ended Friday night in a 5-4 loss to the Memphis RiverKings at the DeSoto Civic Center. The Central Hockey League record win streak ended in a matchup of the league's top two teams as the Eagles found themselves trailing 5-1 but stormed back in the third period to make it a one-goal game. Special teams was the difference in the contest with the RiverKings converting on three power play goals on 11 chances and the Eagles converted on just one power play on five chances. The game marked the Eagles first loss in over one month with the last loss coming on December 1, 2006. Colorado (26-5-0) will head to Bossier City to take on the Mudbugs Saturday night in their last game before the All-Star break.

Rick Kozak gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead on a power play goal at the 8:59 mark of the first period. Only 10 seconds later, Memphis took a 2-0 lead on a breakaway goal by Tyler McGregor as the Eagles turned the puck over just after the face off. The Eagles fought back in the second half of the period and Scott Polaski put in a rebound with just 15 seconds remaining in the period to cut the RiverKings lead in half. After one period, Memphis led 2-1.

The RiverKings took a two-goal lead just 3:46 into the second period on a goal by Louis Dumont, their second power play goal of the game on a five-on-three. The 3-1 lead would last for the remainder of the period.

Memphis jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the third period on goals just 18 seconds apart. Brad Wanchulak scored the RiverKings third power play goal of the games and Ryan Campbell added to the lead. Colorado answered on an even-strength goal by Chris Hartsburg when he found some room in the crease and beat RiverKings' goaltender Larry Sterling. The visiting team continued to battle back and Seth Leonard scored with 2:10 remaining to make it a 5-3 game. Colorado earned a power play with 1:34 remaining and they converted just 30 seconds into the power play with an extra attacker. Ryan Tobler made it a 5-4 game with just over one minute remaining in the game. The Eagles continued to battle in the final minute however were not able to score the tying goal ending their CHL-record 15-game winning streak.
