RiverKings Beat Brahmas 6-3

March 24, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

The Texas Brahmas' all-time leading scorer had a good night against his old team.

Chad Woollard scored twice in the first period as the Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Brahmas 6-3 in Game 1 of the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference Opening Round.

Woollard's two goals sandwiched a power play goal from Steve Makway as the RiverKings jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. The onslaught continued into the second period, as Jason Lawmaster scored to make it a 4-0 game. The Brahmas pulled David Cacciola in favor of Brett Jaeger following Lawmaster's goal, but the change in net didn't stop Zach Pearson from scoring late in the period to put the RiverKings in front by a handful.

The Brahmas did get the last word in the second, though, as Tyler Skworchinski's last-minute power play goal got them on the board. That goal seemed to give the Brahmas a boost, as a power play goal from Anders Strome and a lamp-lighter from Greg McConnell in the third period made it a 5-3 game with 6:32 remaining.

Darrell Stoddard scored into an empty net with 1:42 left to seal the deal for the RiverKings, who got 30 saves from Sebastien Centomo tonight. Cacciola made nine saves, while Jaeger made 14.

The teams play Game 2 of the Northern Conference Opening Round at NYTEX Sports Centre on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. The pre-game show begins at 6:55 p.m. on Sports 56 WHBQ. A RiverKings win advances them to the conference semifinals against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
