Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (March 24)- The playoffs are where heroes are made, and for the Texas Brahmas they will have to wait for Wednesday's game for theirs to emerge as they lost the first playoff game against the Mississippi RiverKings 6-3 Monday.
Mississippi scored three goals in the first and one goal at the 3:29 mark in the second to end Brahmas goaltender David Cacciola's night early. Former Brahma Chad Woollard netted two and Steve Makway and Jason Lawmaster scored one a piece. Brett Jaeger came off the bench to relieve Cacciola immediately after the goal. The four goal deficit was not the end of the Brahmas bleeding as Jaeger could not stop a Zach Pearson goal with two minutes remaining in the second.
Texas rookie Tyler Skworchinski and the Brahmas offense woke up in the final minute in the second period with a powerplay goal on RiverKing's netminder Sebastien Centomo. The goal gave Texas a little momentum going into the final period as Anders Strome scored the Brahmas second powerplay goal of the night from Jordan Cameron making it 5-2.
Greg McConnell put the Brahmas within two with an unassisted goal. The slow start made it difficult for Texas to come back from behind, ultimately losing 6-3 after a emptynet goal by Darrell Stoddard. The loss leaves a bad taste for Brahmas fans due to the franchise's last playoff game was a 6-3 loss to the RiverKings March 26, 2002.
Special teams played a large role in the game as Texas had 12 penalties for 35 minutes and Mississippi 14 for 28 minutes. Cacciola stopped 9/13 and Jaeger stopped 14/15. RiverKings goalie Centomo stopped 30/33 for the win.
The Brahmas are down 0-1 in a best of three series and will return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre Wednesday evening for a 7:05 rematch against the RiverKings. For ticket information please contact the Brahmas Box Office (817) 336-4423 or log on to www.brahmas.com.
