
Cooke, Ornelas Added For Playoff Run

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-A weekend sweep of Amarillo earned the Scorpions the third seed in the playoffs, head coach Randy Murphy signed two amateurs to the playoff roster. Stephen Cooke and Jonathan Ornelas have signed amateur contracts and will be eligible to participate in Scorpions playoff games.
Cooke arrives after playing the last four seasons at the University of Prince Edward Island. The 5'10" center played in 107 games, scoring 69 points (23G, 46A) and amassed 171 penalty minutes.
Ornelas recently finished his collegiate career at the Renesslaer Polytechnic Institute. The Mississauga, Ontario , native played scored 64 points (34G, 30A) in 139 games. During his sophomore season the forward scored a career high 13 goals, including seven on the power play to lead his team in that category. This past season he led his team with nine goals.
"Both players will add depth to our team during the playoffs," said Murphy. "This will give our roster some flexibility and allow us to match up versus our opponents better on a game-by-game basis."
The Scorpions will face the Arizona Sundogs in the Conference Semifinals for the second straight season. The series starts in Prescott Valley on Friday and Saturday. Join fellow Scorps fans at Turtle Mountain Brewery in Rio Rancho for a "Watch Party." The games begin at 8:05 p.m.
The series shifts back to the Santa Ana Star Center the following week. The Scorpions will host games on Wednesday, April 2nd, Friday, April 4th, and Saturday April 5th. All three home games start at 7:15 p.m. Call 881-PUCK for more information on how you can reserve your playoff tickets.
