Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender of the Week Announced

March 24, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the final Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week (period ending March 22nd, 2008) are forward Ryan Bennett of the Youngstown SteelHounds and goaltender Ian Keserich of the Mississippi RiverKings.

Bennett had an incredible week scoring goals in all three SteelHounds games (all wins versus Colorado) totaling nine points (6-3=9). On Wednesday, Bennett scored a goal and had an assist in Youngstown's 3-2 win. He then netted a hat trick on Friday night with two helpers and a +5 plus/minus rating. The Glens Falls, New York native may have saved his best for last though as on Saturday night he scored a pair of third period goals tying the score and giving the Hounds a chance to win the game in a shootout. Bennett's game tying goal came with 43 seconds remaining in regulation. The 6-0, 195-pound forward signed late in the season with the SteelHounds and then battled injuries allowing him to play in just 11 games (8-3=11).

Keserich faced two critical games for the playoff hopes of the RiverKings and came up big winning both starts allowing just one goal. In Thursday's 1-0 win versus Oklahoma City, the Parma, Ohio native made 33 saves earning his first professional shutout. The first-year player followed that up by making 32 saves and allowing just one goal in the RiverKings 6-1 win over Corpus Christi on Saturday night. For the season, the 6-2, 200-pound goaltender has a 15-9-3 record (13-7-1 with Mississippi) with a 2.64 goals against average and a .916 save percentage.

In recognition of their achievements, both Bennett and Keserich will receive a special gift from Oakley.
