Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that they have acquired the rights to defenseman Tyler Wooddisse (WOOD-ih-see) from the CHL's Allen Americans in exchange for the rights to defenseman David Simoes (sih-MOHZ).

Wooddisse comes to the RiverKings after scoring 11 goals, 34 points, and 78 penalty minutes in 62 games for the Southern Conference-winning Americans in his second CHL season last year. The 25-year old native of Brampton, Ontario added seven assists and 21 penalty minutes in 20 games of the playoffs, as Allen reached the CHL championship finals before falling to Rapid City in six games last spring.

The eleven goals with Allen were a career professional high for the 6-foot, 205 pound defenseman, as were the 23 assists, 34 points, and 78 penalty minutes.

RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin "Killer" Kaminski says Wooddisse will bring talent in several areas. "He's a very good puck moving defenseman," Kaminski said. "He has great vision, which will make him a big addition to our power play."

His best scoring nights last season came late in the year, when Wooddisse posted a two-goal, three-point effort on two occasions, one at Rapid City on March 12th, and again in the season finale at home against Amarillo on March 20th. Wooddisse had four games of multiple points and had a six-game scoring streak between a 3-2 win over Mississippi on February 2nd and 4-1 loss to Texas on February 13th where he scored the Americans' only goal that night.

Wooddisse ended the year sixth on the Americans' roster for assists and points. His +14 plus/minus statistics placed him fourth on the Americans' list and he was fifth on the team for penalty minutes. He added seven power play goals and two game-winning goals during the regular season.

In his first CHL season, Wooddisse played nine games under Kaminski when they were together with the Youngstown SteelHounds late in the 2007-08 season. During his stint in Youngstown, Tyler netted four assists and 13 penalty minutes. He also played five games of the post-season that year for the SteelHounds, with no points and four penalty minutes.

Kaminski also likes the way Wooddisse plays with confidence and an attitude. "He plays with an edge and he's gritty. Tyler is really becoming a professional."

In addition to his time in the CHL, Wooddisse has professional experience in the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), having played 28 games during the 2007-08 season with the Twin City Cyclones of the SPHL, five with the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL that same season, 20 games with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL in 2008-09, followed by 34 games that same year with the ECHL's Utah Grizzlies.

His professional career started after a junior career in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League with Oakville and Burlington. His best junior season came in 2004-05 with Burlington, when he scored 13 goals for 41 points and 149 PIMs in 45 games with the Cougars.

Simoes leaves the RiverKings after playing two seasons in Mississippi, scoring six goals for 30 points and 365 penalty minutes in 114 appearances. He added one assist and 15 penalty minutes in 15 playoff games over two years in the Mid-South.
