Laredo Bucks News Release

The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Tuesday that they have signed rookie defenseman Denys Petrukhno for the 2010-11 season. Petrukhno spent the last two seasons playing junior hockey for the Springfield Jr. Blues (NAHL).

During the last two seasons Petrukhno (pronounced pet-TROOK-no), a native of Kiev, Ukraine, put up 44 points (18-26=44) and 152 PIM's in 98 total games for the Blues.

"Denys is a tough, physical defenseman and we need lots of that in our line-up this season," said Bucks President/General Manager and Head Coach Terry Ruskowski. "He's not afraid to mix it up and make a physical impact on the game and that's what I like about him."

Last season the 6'3'', 200 pound Petrukhno picked up career highs in goals (three), assists (23) and points (26) to go along with 62 PIM's in 46 games for Springfield. In September of 2009 Petrukhno was named to the NAHL Showcase All-Tournament team. In the 2010 playoffs Petrukhno had one assist in four games.

During the 2008-09 season Petrukhno had 18 points (2-16=18) with 90 PIM's in 52 games for the Jr. Blues. During the 2009 playoffs Petrukhno had one assist in four games.

"Denys is a great skater and he has a great sense for the game as well," Ruskowski said. "He's been playing hockey in the U.S since he was 15 years old so he has pretty much adjusted to the North American style of play."

In December of 2008 Petrukhno played for Ukraine in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-20 Championships in Denmark.

Petrukhno is the eighth Buck signed for the 2010-11 season.

The Bucks will start their ninth CHL season on October 15th with their home opener October 23rd against Rio Grande Valley at Laredo Energy Arena. Season tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. Call 718-BUCK (2825) to place our order now.
