Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

The Pittsburgh Riverhounds look to build on their road success this Saturday as they travel to Virginia to face the 2013 USL PRO Regular Season Champions, the Richmond Kickers. Kick off is scheduled for 5:00PM at City Stadium and will be streamed live on YouTube.

Riverhounds Head Coach Justin Evans expects a tough match against the Kickers, "It's going to be a stiff challenge for us. They're a tough team and it's their home opener, so we know they're going to be focused. I think the match against Orlando helps us in this regard since it was the same situation, but it's not going to be an easy game by any stretch."

The Riverhounds opened the 2014 campaign last week against defending USL PRO champions, the Orlando City Lions, battling to a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless first half, Jose Angulo and Matt Dallman picked up right where they left off last season as the USL PRO's leading scoring tandem. On a ball played from Dallman, Angulo out-muscled Rob Valentino at the top of Orlando City's penalty area, then maneuvered past Orlando goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo for a left footed finish to quiet the home crowd.

"We weren't as sharp as we could have been with the ball in our possession, but we defended really well," added Evans. "We showed a lot of character. We have some fighters on our team this year and we really haven't had that in years past, and that's great for us."

Likewise, Richmond opened the season on the road last weekend with a 2-2 draw against the Charleston Battery. Newly acquired midfielder George Davis IV scored twice against the Battery, to earn USL PRO Player of the Week status. Goalkeeper Joe Willis joined the Kickers on loan from the club's official MLS partner, D.C. United, making his Kickers' debut.

The Riverhounds and the Kickers drew even twice in 2013, bookending the season with a home-home series.

The Riverhounds will open their home schedule next Saturday, April 12th at Highmark Stadium as they match up against the Wilmington Hammerheads. To purchase tickets, visit riverhounds.com 8meo19dpc48Ckfj-BPg1w==].

Riverhounds Notes

- Houston Dynamo midfielder Brian Ownby and goalkeeper Michael Lisch will join the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on loan. Lisch arrived in Pittsburgh on Thursday and Ownby is expected to arrive early next week. Ownby and Lisch are the fourth and fifth Dynamo players to join the Riverhounds on loan this season. Anthony Arena, Jason Johnson and Bryan Salazar joined the Riverhounds last week with all three seeing action against Orlando City. Arena and Johnson played 90 minutes and Salazar appeared as a substitute in the 85th minute.

- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds earned a pair of selections to the USL PRO Team of the Week with midfielder Anthony Obodai and on-loan Houston Dynamo defender Anthony Arena. Obodai, in particular, had a strong game as he helped break up numerous Orlando attacks and distributed well from the center of the field. Goalkeeper Greg Blum and forward Jose Angulo both received honorable mentions for Team of the Week.
