Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Ca.- For the first time in Orange County history soccer lovers and sports fans will have the opportunity to witness and support their very own professional mens soccer team as the OC Blues FC kick off its inaugural home opener Saturday night versus Oklahoma City Energy FC at Anteater Stadium, UC Irvine. Gates open at 5:30 PM with kick-off set for 7:00 PM.
The Energy are making the first appearance of their inaugural season in USL PRO. Oklahoma City is an affiliate of Major League Soccer's Sporting Kansas City, and has midfielder Christian Duke available on loan from the club. The Energy are also coached by former SKC goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, who helped Sporting claim the MLS Cup last December in his final game as a player.
The Blues are also entering a new era, as this offseason the club rebranded to become the Orange County Blues Football Club. Saturday's game will be the first home opener in OC Blues FC history at UC Irvine.
Orange County has a number of local standouts on the roster for the new season, with James Turner and Chris Cortez being joined by Gibson Bardsley and William Prado for the new season. Both the Blues and the Energy also have former members of UC Irvine's program, with recent Orange County signing Enrique Cardenas set to go up against the Energy's Tarek Morad as they return as rivals to their home field, Anteater Stadium.
"We are looking forward to our home game as the Orange County Blues FC and know we can start off our home campaign with dominance. This is an exciting time in the history of our club." said General Manager Jon Spencer.
