Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC -- The Eagles faced the Dayton Dutch Lions at home for their season opener on Friday April 4th. Charlotte started their attack early on as Zak Boggs finished on a half-volley from a beautiful cross by Ben Newnam but the goal was disallowed after an offside call. The next 23 minutes were filled with many chances but no tallies on the board. Goalkeepers Doug Herrick and Matt Williams stood tall in both goals, keeping multiple chances out. In the 29th minute Thompson hammered a left footed shot into the back of the net for the Eagles but the goal was disallowed after a foul was assessed to him. David Geno got another quality chance off a feed from Herrera but was again denied by Williams in the 32nd minute.

In the 40th minute Dayton opened the scoring as Brock Granger tallied a goal off of a corner kick from Ross Friedman. The Eagles got another quality chance when a blast from Herrera in the 55' flew just over the goal.

Herrick stood tall and made save after save for the Eagles keeping the game close. Unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Eagles had quality opportunities but just couldn't find the back of the net.

The game ended with a 1-0 score line to the Dayton Dutch Lions.

The Dayton victory was the first in franchise history against the Eagles, the all-time series now stands at 1-1-5 for both clubs.

Charlotte will return to Queens Sports Complex on Saturday, April 12th at 7 pm against the Richmond Kickers.
