Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release
The Riverhounds FC (1-1-5) recorded another tie in the 2006 campaign as the HOUNDS® and the Cincinnati Kings (3-3-2) battled to a 2-2 tie at Falconi Field.
Early in the game, neither team could get the advantage as the defense and goaltending was effective. The Riverhounds seemed to take a 1-0 lead at the 20th minute mark as forward David Flavius torched a ball past the Kings' goaltender, but the goal was not allowed due to an offsides call on the Riverhounds.
The Kings scored the first goal of the game when forward Jack Cummings put one past Riverhounds' goalkeeper Terry McNelis in the 38th minute mark. The Kings took a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.
The Riverhounds came out aggressively in the second half and finally connected with a goal via a header off a corner kick. Defender Gabe Bernstein was credited with the goal in the 56th minute mark as fellow defensemen Cody Bragg got the assist.
The Riverhounds took the lead at the 64th minute mark when midfielder Derek MacKenzie recorded his first goal of the season. Once again, Bragg assisted on the goal. The 2-1 lead would be short though, as 25 seconds later the Kings tied the game when Nowaf Jaman scored.
Down the stretch, both teams had scoring opportunities, but neither could cash in and the game ended 2-2. The Riverhounds out shoot the Kings 15-9.
Up next for the Riverhounds will be their Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Tournament first round match-up against the Michigan Bucks of the Premier Development League (PDF) on Wednesday, June 14. The Bucks (4-1-1) are in first place in the Great Lakes Division. The HOUNDS® will be returning home on Wednesday, June 21, against divisional foe Wilmington Hammerheads (1-2-3).
