RiverHawks lose, 5-2, in front of all-time record crowd

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The largest crowd in the history of the Rockford RiverHawks watched Windy City starter Ross Stout pitch a five-hitter and beat the RiverHawks, 5-2, on Thursday.
The standing room-only crowd of 6,588 at Road Ranger Stadium broke the RiverHawks record of 6,548 set on Aug. 22, 2003 at Marinelli Field for a game against Cook County, now known as the Windy City ThunderBolts. The RiverHawks totaled 25,236 in the six-game homestand, the largest in the team's seven-year history. They broke their record for the largest crowd in Road Ranger Stadium history three times during the homestand.
Stout (4-3) struck out a season-high 12 without a walk and did not allow an earned run. After Robert Sabates led off the fourth inning with a single, Stout retired the following 14 batters.
Wes Long was 3-for-5. He doubled home a run in the first inning, broke a 1-1 tie with a third-inning home run and singled home a run in the fifth.
The RiverHawks are on the road for the final nine games before the all-star break. They open a three-game series in Evansville at 3:05 p.m. Friday.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 16th season.
