RiverDogs Outscore Legends 12-10

Vicente Conde had four hit and five runs batted in as the Charleston RiverDogs outslugged the Lexington Legends 12-10 Thursday night in Charleston, South Carolina.

Back-to-back doubles by Devyn Bolasky and Conde gave Charleston a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Legends answered with two in the second inning on run-scoring single by Brandon Downes and Michael Hill. Downes had four hits and two runs batted in for Lexington.

The RiverDogs reclaimed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the second. Two came home on Conde's second double, and Conde scored on a double by Bo Thompson. Thompson scored when second baseman Austin Bailey committed a throwing error after fielding a ball hit by Billy Fleming, and Charleston led 5-2.

After each team scored a run in the third, the Legends took the lead with four runs in the fourth. Anderson Miller led off with a triple and scored on a single by Downes. Samir Duenez bunted for a hit as Downes went to second. A two-out triple by Luis Valenzuela scored both runners and tied the game at 6-6, and Valenzuela came home with the go-ahead run on the same play when Fleming, the second baseman, committed a throwing error.

The Legends' 7-6 lead lasted until the bottom of the fifth. Radley Haddad led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Bolasky. Conde singled to left, scoring Haddad with the tying run. After Thompson walked, Fleming singled, scoring Conde for an 8-7 Charleston lead. Austin Aune drew a walk, loading the bases. Isaias Tejeda's single to left field brought two more runs home. Aune went to third on the hit, and Tejeda moved to second on a throwing error by left fielder DonAndre Clark. A ground out by Griffin Gordon scored Aune with the final run of the inning, and Charleston led 11-7.

The Legends closed the gap to one with three runs in the sixth. Duenez drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a one-out single by Clark. Valenzuela's bunt single loaded the bases, and Duenez scored on a single by Bailey. Clark scored as Chad Johnson grounded into a force play at second base, and Valenzuela came home on a single by Wander Franco, leaving the RiverDogs in front 11-10.

Doubles by Haddad and Conde in the bottom of the sixth produced the game's final run.

Josh Rogers (1-0), who entered the game with two outs in the fourth inning, worked three and one-third innings and got the win. Brody Koerner, who had joined Charleston earlier in the day after being transferred from Pulaski in the Appalachian League, allowed one hit and no runs over the final two innings and picked up his first save.

Legends reliever Nik Stephenson (4-7), who relieved starter Yunior Marte in the third inning and pitched one and two-thirds innings, took the loss.

Charleston won two games out of three in the series.

The Legends move on to Rome, Georgia where they will open a four-game series with the Braves Friday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
