Savannah Sand Gnats News Release

Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats rolled over the Rome Braves 9-4 on Thursday at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Sand Gnats have won ten straight and 17 of their last 19 games.

The Gnats (28-17/66-48) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Second baseman Jonathan Johnson was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and shortstop Luis Guillorme singled to tie for the South Atlantic League lead in hits. DH Eudor Garcia doubled home the pair and scored himself on an RBI-single from left fielder John Mora.

Rome (16-29/47-67) managed just two hits off Gnats starter Casey Delgado through the first five innings. The Braves capitalized on an error to score their first run in the sixth. Trailing 4-1, the Braves loaded the bases on a single, walk, and hit batter. Rome's 3B Wigberto Nevarez singled home a pair off Delgado and SS Erison Mendez doubled home the game-tying run off reliever Ben Griset (1-1).

With the game tied at four, back-to-back singles from right fielder Wuilmer Becerra and Garcia led off the home half of the seventh. Mora grounded out to 1B Matt Tellor, but Becerra was able to come home on a throwing error to regain the lead. Third baseman JC Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI-double down the line in right.

Savannah added three insurance runs on five consecutive hits from the top half of the line up to put the game away in the eighth, 9-4. Guillorme's double in the eighth put him alone at the top of the SAL hits leaders.

The Sand Gnats will welcome the Greensboro Grasshoppers for a three-game series tomorrow at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats will start RHP Martires Arias (6-5, 2.67), while the `Hoppers will send RHP Jorgen Cavenerio (3-5, 4.21) to the mound for the 7:05 PM start.
