TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: The eighth of 18 meetings and the fourth of 10 here. Richmond is 4-2-1 vs. Elmira, 2-0-1 here. Jay Murphy has six points vs. the Jackals. Don Smith has nine points vs. the ‘Dogs. Richmond has been out-scored by six goals on special teams vs. Elmira. Jackals are in fourth place, one point behind the ‘Dogs. The ‘Dogs are third in the Eastern Conference, five points behind Flint and six back of Columbus with one game in hand on each.

LAST ACTION: The RiverDogs lost here in a shootout 5-4 to Elmira last night. Richmond carried a 4-2 lead into the third period but Elmira rallied to tie the game and earned the win in a seven round shootout. Dave Shields and Jay Murphy scored twice for Richmond. J.F. Boutin and Nathan Gillies scored twice for Elmira. Eddy Lowe had the game-winner in the shootout. The ‘Dogs out-shot the Jackals 32-23.

'DOG BITES: The ‘Dogs ended a four game regulation loosing streak last night but are now winless in eight straight games. Richmond re-activated Darren Wetherill prior to last night's game and placed J.F. Picard on team suspension. Three RiverDogs were named to the UHL Eastern Conference All Star team for the Comcast 2004 UHL All Star Classic on January 18 in Ft. Wayne. Kevin St. Jacques, Jay Murphy, and J.J. Wrobel will represent the ‘Dogs. The 'Dogs have scored power play goals in four straight games, equaling their longest streak of the season. 10 of the 'Dogs 13 losses have been by three or more goals. The 'Dogs have allowed 12 power play goals in their last five games. Richmond is 0-4-2 on a 10 game homestand. The 'Dogs play four games in five nights, all at home, this week. Since hitting a high-water mark of 10 games over .500 with a 14-4 record on 12/6, Richmond is 3-9-2. The 'Dogs are 10-5 on the road and 7-8-2 at home. Murphy is 19th in the UHL in scoring. Wrobel is tied for the league lead in game-wining-goals. He is on the 7-Day IR. Jeremy Wray is fourth in shooting percentage. Richmond leads the UHL in penalty minutes. They are second in majors.

JACKALS NOTES: Elmira snapped a four game loosing streak last night. Four Jackals will play for the Eastern Conference in the Comcast 2004 UHL All Star Classic: defensemen Cal Benazic and Trevor Burgess, goalie Peter Aubry, and right wing Greg Koehler. Koehler is fifth in the UHL in scoring. Aubry is fourth in goals against average. He has two shutouts vs. Richmond this season. Kris Mallette leads the league in PIM. The Jackals are on an eight game road trip.

NEXT UP: The ‘Dogs battle Flint Friday and Saturday at 7:35. Friday is a Times Dispatch Press Pass Night. Look for the coupon in the Times Dispatch good for $3.00 off any adult admission. The RiverDogs will open the upper bowl Saturday in a effort to set a new UHL single game attendance record. Upper bowl seats will be $7.50, including the Coliseum user fee and all fans will receive a free t-shirt. There will be a free post-game skate for all fans with RiverDogs players following Saturday's game.
