
River Riders Split with River Turtles After 13-10 Defeat

Pulaski, VA - The River Riders split the road series in a 13-10 loss against the Pulaski River Turtles at Calfee Park in Pulaski Friday night. Shortstop John Montes (UCF) finished 3-for-5 and was a triple shy of the cycle.
The River Turtles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a 2 RBI double by shortstop Josh Rolling (California).
The River Riders responded in the top of the third, scoring four runs. Montes tied the game with a two-run home run. First baseman Eli Young (Gateway) scored on a throwing error by Pulaski right fielder John Bay (Oklahoma State University). Right fielder Mario Zabala(Florida International) scored on a single to right field by catcher Chase Adkison (OSU).
The runs continued for Elizabethton in the fourth inning scoring three runs. Young scored from third on a wild pitch. Third baseman Robin Fernandez (St.Thomas) singled and scored Zabala and second baseman Marcus Brown (OSU).
Pulaski responded in the bottom of the fourth and scored four runs to bring the game within one run, 7-6 River Riders.
On a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, second baseman Connor Gore (OSU) hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Bag to tie the game 7-7.
Elizabethton reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth with Fernandez's third and final RBI of the game on a single to right field, scoring Brown. Adkison then scored on a wild pitch, 9-7 River Riders.
In the bottom of the sixth, River Turtles hit a solo home run to left field, bringing Pulaski within one run. With two outs, the River Turtles strung together four hits, scoring four runs, and gave themselves a 12-9 lead.
Pulaski center fielder Ross Lovich (Missouri) scored on an error by center fielder DJ Sullivan (Florence-Darlington Tech).
E-Town left fielder Garrison Berkeley (TCU) singled to left, scoring Brown in the top of the eighth for the River Riders 10th and final run.
