
River Riders Shutout River Turtles 3-0 in Game One Victory

ELIZABETHTON, TN --- The Elizabethton River Riders defeated the River Turtles 3-0 Thursday night at Motor Field In Pulaski. Starting RHP Drew Gillespie finished with six strikeouts and four hits, and no walks or runs allowed.
The River Riders scored two runs in the top of the third inning with an RBI double by second baseman John Montes (UCF) to score designated hitter Sam Thompson (TCU) with no outs. Montes stole third and scored on the throwing error to Pulaski third baseman Mark Trotta (William & Mary) by catcher Irvin Escobar (Bethune Cookman), 2-0 River Riders.
Elizabethton's pitching staff gave up a season-low one walk while striking out 10 between Gillespie, RHP Bryce Woody (Lincoln Memorial), LHP Jace Minor (Wichita State), and RHP Chase Lorg (Bethany). Minor gave up the sole River Turtle walk to center fielder Ross Lovich (Missouri).
In the top of the ninth left fielder DJ Sullivan (Florence-Darlington Tech) doubled with one out. Sullivan scored on a throwing error by first baseman Garrett Rice (Missouri)
