Elizabethton River Riders News Release
PRINCETON, W.V. - The Elizabethton River Riders lost the second game of a two-game series to the Princeton WhistlePigs on Friday night by a final score of 5-4.
Elizabethton scored the first runs of the game in the second inning when an error by the Princeton defense allowed both Carter Jagiela and Kerry Herndon-Brown to give the River Riders a 2-0 lead.
Peyton Basler added to the lead in the next frame when he hit a solo home run to right-center field. However, the WhistlePigs got the run back in the bottom half of the frame on a solo shot off the bat of Jesse Robinson.
The E-Town offense struck for one more in the fourth thanks to a home run to left off the bat of Ethan Sitzman, making it a 4-1 game. Princeton then began its comeback in the fifth, when Cam Careswell singled home Robinson.
After getting one run in the seventh on an RBI single, the WhistlePigs entered the ninth inning down by one. The River Riders were able to get the first two outs without issue, however Princeton worked three straight walks to load the bases. With a full count, the bases loaded and two outs, Careswell put a ball in play that was bobbled by Herndon-Brown at first, which allowed two runners to score and the WhistlePigs to win the game, 5-4.
Elizabethton will be back in action Saturday night at home against the Pulaski River Turtles, with first pitch set for 7 p.m.
