Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., -- The Sacramento River Cats defeated the Stockton Ports in a scrimmage on Monday night at Raley Field, highlighted by a Grant Green walk-off grand slam.

The Ports took the early lead in the second inning when a Nino Leyja sacrifice fly scored Yuba City native Max Stassi. The River Cats responded with a two-run second inning that included a run-scoring fielder's choice and an RBI single.

In the top of the third inning, Port designated hitter Josh Whitaker gave his team the 3-2 lead with a two-run home run. Sacramento again responded in their half of the inning when Jeff Fiorentino scored on a Michael Taylor sacrifice fly, tying the game at three.

Neither team would score again until Stassi deposited a two-run shot over the left field wall in the top half of the fifth inning. Stockton would tack on another run in the inning, giving them the 6-3 advantage.

Four frames later, Sacramento scored a run to begin the bottom of the ninth, pulling them within two. The Cats then loaded the bases for outfielder Grant Green. After taking two pitches for balls, Green sent the fans home happy with a walk-off grand slam.

The River Cats open the 2012 season on the road in Las Vegas on April 5. They return to Raley Field for their home opener on April 13 at 7:05 p.m. against the Reno Aces.
