Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Oklahoma City, Okla. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, announced the 2012 roster today in advance of the Thursday night season-opening game against the Memphis Redbirds at RedHawks Field at Bricktown.
The current RedHawks roster stands at 22 players and is subject to change prior to Opening Night. A total of 25 active players are allowed under Pacific Coast League rules.
The RedHawks pitching staff includes Juan Abreu, Xavier Cedeno (LH), Paul Clemens, Enerio del Rosario, Adalberto Flores, Dallas Keuchel (LH), Jordan Lyles, Sergio Perez, Aneury Rodriguez, Mickey Storey and Jose Valdez.
A total of nine pitchers make a return trip to Oklahoma City, including Tulsa, Oklahoma native Dallas Keuchel, while six of the pitchers saw Major League time last season (Abreu, Cedeno, del Rosario, Lyles, Rodriguez, Valdez). Three RedHawks pitchers are among the top 30 prospects in the Houston Astros organization according to Baseball America: Clemens (5), Abreu (19) and Keuchel (21).
RedHawks catchers include Carlos Corporan, who returns to Oklahoma City after seeing significant time with Houston in 2011, and former Oakland Athletics backstop Landon Powell, a 2004 first round selection by the Oakland Athletics out of the University of South Carolina.
In the infield, the RedHawks will feature Jimmy Paredes, a third baseman who was promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi to Houston during the 2011 season. Paredes is expected to play second base with Oklahoma City. Only one infielder returns to the RedHawks, as Brett Wallace spent the month of August with the RedHawks last season. New RedHawks include veteran slugger Mike Hessman, along with former Atlanta Braves infielder Diory Hernandez and former Chicago Cubs farmhand Scott Moore.
In the outfield, Collin Delome and Jake Goebbert return from the 2011 squad, pairing with former New York Mets outfielder Fernando Martinez and former Chicago Cubs outfielder Brad Snyder.
Seven of the 11 position players saw Major League action during the 2011 season.
