Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - A crowd of 15,212-the second largest in franchise history-was on hand Tuesday night as the River Cats fell to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 7-4 during Raley Field's Independence Celebration.

Sacramento got to work early, scoring twice in the bottom of the first inning-once on a wild pitch and again on a Josh Donaldson fielder's choice. The 2-0 lead wouldn't last long, however, as the Sky Sox offense put seven runs on the board over the next three innings, placing the game out of Sacramento's reach.

Adam Rosales cut into the lead with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh, and Anthony Recker hit one of his own in the bottom of the ninth, but the Cats were unable to string enough hits together to complete the comeback.

Sacramento starting pitcher Brad Peacock gave up all seven runs in five innings of work, allowing nine hits and four walks with three strikeouts, suffering his sixth loss of the year. Rich Thompson and Pedro Figueroa combined on four scoreless innings, allowing two walks with four strikeouts.

Rosales finished 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Recker went 1-for-4 with the solo home run, while Michael Taylor went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The paid attendance of 15,212 is the second largest in Raley Field history. The highest attendance in Raley Field history is 15,808 and came exactly four years ago, on July 3, 2008.

The River Cats hit the road tomorrow for a five-game series in Fresno prior to the Triple-A All-Star break. The team returns to Raley Field on June 12 for a four-game set against the Las Vegas 51s, who are currently just 4.5 games back of the River Cats for first place in the division. Game one of the homestand is set for Country Night on July 12, which is also a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday.
