Sacramento River Cats News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - Josh Donaldson and Adam Rosales combined for four home runs and 10 RBIs on Independence Day at Chukchansi Park, leading the River Cats to a series-opening 18-4 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies.
Rosales hit a two-run homer and a grand slam, while Donaldson hit a three-run shot and a solo homer for the Cats, who used a 10-run ninth inning to blow open what was already a lopsided affair. Michael Taylor added a three-run home run in the ninth, capping a rally in which the River Cats sent 13 men to the plate.
Overshadowed by the offense was starter Tyson Ross (3-1), who picked up the win after holding Fresno to just one run on six hits in seven innings of work. Ross struck out seven and walked just two in his first Triple-A appearance in a month.
Fresno starter Andrew Kown (4-3) suffered the defeat, allowing seven runs-six earned-in four innings.
The Cats offense pounded out 19 hits, nine of which went for extra bases. In addition to big nights from Rosales and Donaldson, Grant Green went 4-for-6 with four runs scored, while Kila Ka'aihue went 3-for-5 with three RBIs..
Sacramento and Fresno continue the series Thursday, with a pair of All-Star pitchers scheduled to toe the slab. PCL All-Star starter Graham Godfrey (8-0, 2.31 ERA) will take the ball for Sacramento, while Fresno will counter with RHP Eric Hacker (10-4, 4.56 ERA). First pitch from Chukchansi Park is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.
Sacramento returns home Thursday, July 12, for a four-game homestand against the Las Vegas 51s. The homestand opener is set for 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field, and is Country Night and a Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday. Fans are encouraged to call (916) 371-HITS for details.
