Salt Lake Bees News Release

A Bees rally came up one run short, as Salt Lake fell 6-5 to the Tacoma Rainiers in front of a sellout crowd of 15,411 on Wednesday night. Tacoma took a 5-0 lead in the third inning with the final four runs coming in on a grand slam by Carlos Peguero. After the Rainiers went up 6-0 in the fifth, the Bees started to chip away, as Matt Long homered off of the right field foul pole in the fifth. In the sixth, Efren Navarro drove in a run with a double and Paul McAnulty followed with a two-run homer to get the Bees within two. With one out in the seventh, Ed Lucas singled and then scored on a triple by Doug Deeds to make it 6-5, but Salt Lake could not bring in the tying run.

Brad Mills (3-4) took the loss, as he went three innings and allowed five runs on five hits. Lucas and Navarro led the Bees with two hits each. With his two runs batted in on his sixth inning homer, McAnulty now has 700 RBI in his minor league career.

"Our guys are going to go out there and they are going to battle," said Bees Manager Keith Johnson. "Obviously our offense kind of woke up, but we had a lot of unlucky plays tonight. We were hitting the ball all over the ballpark. Unfortunately their guys were finding our baseballs and making those plays."
