Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - Infielder David Villar's memorable week added another accolade on Thursday as he was named to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The game will be broadcast live at 4 p.m. (PT) on Peacock and SiriusXM and be replayed at 5:30 p.m. (PT) on MLB Network.

Villar, the Giants' 11th round pick in 2018 out of South Florida, was one of two San Francisco prospects picked for the National League roster.

One year after his breakout 2021 season with Double-A Richmond, Villar set a career-high with 21 home runs and 62 RBIs with Sacramento, and won PCL Player of the Week May 9-15.

The 25-year-old leads the PCL in home runs and slugging percentage (.633). He also ranks inside the top-10 with 62 RBIs (second), a .409 on-base percentage (fourth), a 1.042 OPS (second), 44 walks (fifth), and 53 runs (tied for fourth).

Villar, a two-time MiLB.com Organization All-Star, lined a double off longtime San Francisco Giant, and current Arizona lefty, Madison Bumgarner on the first pitch he saw in his MLB debut on July 4.

In addition to Villar, Richmond left-hander Kyle Harrison (Giants' No. 2 prospect on MLB Pipeline), was selected for the National League roster.

The River Cats will return home on July 12 to take on the Colorado Rockies' Triple-A affiliate, the Albuquerque Isotopes, for a six-game series, including the fan-favorite Star Wars Night on July 16. Tickets are available on rivercats.com.
