R Extra-Inning, 1-Run Magic Continues at Reno

Reno, NV - The Tacoma Rainiers (34-45) won their fourth straight and won their fourth consecutive extra-inning game (since June 29), by outlasting the Reno Aces (41-39) 3-2 in 10 innings on Wednesday. In taking a 2-0 series lead, Tacoma has also won six of seven and five of their last six one-run games (all since June 29).
The contest would remain scoreless until the visiting fourth, when Kevin Padlo narrowly missed a three-run homer to straightaway center, settling instead for a two-run double off the batter's eye. Brian O'Keefe (single) and Erick Mejia (walk) each scored for a 2-0 Tacoma lead. Padlo hit the ball an estimated 426 feet despite it not being a home run, the furthest-traveling ball of the evening by 42 feet.
Reno RHP Dan Straily worked five innings, allowing three hits and three walks. Both runs against him were earned, and he struck out five.
The Aces did not drive in a run, but scored twice off a Cole Tucker single in the eighth, due to a three-base error. Tucker himself touched all four bases and scored the second run, tying the game 2-2.
On a bullpen day for Tacoma, eight arms teamed up to strike out seven, walk only one and not allow an earned run. Righty Chris Mazza (1 K) and lefty Brennan Bernardino (2 K) each pitched multiple scoreless frames to begin the game.
With the score still 2-2 after nine innings, the Rainiers managed to plate only their auto runner in the 10th, in the form of Scott Heineman on a Drew Ellis RBI single. This was of little concern to right-hander Matt Brash, who secured his third Triple-A save with a strikeout to end the ballgame. With Reno's auto-runner at third base with one out, Tacoma second baseman Alex Blandino prevented the tying run with a nifty throw home on a fielder's choice (4-2 putout), setting the stage for Brash to end it with a punchout.
The series continues on Thursday at Greater Nevada Field. RHP Daniel Ponce de Leon is Tacoma's scheduled starter, against Reno RHP Drey Jameson. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m PT.
