Rivas Homers for Third Straight in 66ers 3-1 Loss to Giants

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino got a leadoff homer from Leonardo Rivas in the bottom of the first versus the San Jose Giants on Monday at San Manuel Stadium. It proved to be the Sixers only run as San Jose snapped a six-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Inland Empire (12-13) in the first game of a four-game set.

Rivas took San Jose (9-16) starter Aaron Phillips deep to open the game marking the second straight contest that he has tagged a leadoff jack and his third consecutive game with a homer; the Maracay, VZ native now has four homers on the year. Franklin Torres followed with a sharp single to left but Torii Hunter Jr. followed with a sac bunt that opened a stretch of 15 consecutive batters retired by Phillips. The 66ers mustered one more hit the entire contest. The Giants tied the game on Logan Baldwin's RBI double in the fourth and took a lead on his eighth inning infield hit. Jean Angomas' RBI single capped the scoring for the Giants in the ninth. Sandro Cabrera (1-0) earned the win tossing two scoreless, no-hit innings out of the pen with four Ks. Joey Marciano picked up his first career save with a perfect ninth. IE starter Aaron Hernandez allowed one run in four frames fanning a career-best seven men. Andrew Wantz allowed just one run in four frames as well but was saddled with the loss and fell to 2-2. Baldwin finished with three hits for the Giants.
