Oshawa Generals News Release

The rival Oshawa Generals and Peterborough Petes met tonight for the first time this season in a game that was expected to be full of tension. The Generals put up another two points this evening with a 6-1 victory over the Peterborough Petes.

The first period was a big one for the Generals, ending with the Petes trailing the Generals 3-0. A total of 10 penalties were served in the first period. The first penalty was awarded to Cole Cassels for holding. Shortly following however, Garlent sat for two on an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. This brought about 4 on 4 action for a brief 56 seconds. The Generals were on the power play and Michael Dal Colle took advantage, opening the scoring for the Generals with a goal assisted by Cole Cassels and Mitchell Vande Sompel.

Boland and Smith decided to break the tension at the game and both players dropped the gloves for a fight. Smith and Boland were both awarded five minute penalties for fighting and Boland left the ice with a bloody face. Following the fight, the Generals were called on too many men on the ice and Michael Dal Colle served the penalty. Kenny Appleby, who started in goal for the Generals tonight, stood strong and prevented any Petes goals on their power play. Cirelli and Masin were next to the penalty box with two minutes each for roughing. Ritchie then took a kneeing penalty, giving the Generals a 4 on 3 power play. Dal Colle decided he wasn't done scoring and scored his second of the night, again on a power play and again assisted by Cole Cassels. Third and final goal of the period came from veteran Generals defender Chris Carlisle, assisted by Sam Harding and Tobias Lindberg. The period ended with the Generals outshooting the Petes 18-11 and at a 3-0 advantage over the Petes.

The second period featured a number of penalties, this time only nine. The Generals didn't score goals during the period but MacDonald found the first Petes goal of the night, dangling the Generals defensemen and scoring a goal that would be hard for any goalie to stop. The goal was assisted by McCartney and Garlent. The Generals kept the pressure strong through the period and only allowed the Petes to score one goal. The Petes dominated shots on goal during the second period, outshooting the Generals 16-6. Things got chippy between Josh Brown and Anaheim Ducks draftee, Nick Ritchie and both players got caught up resulting in a holding penalties for both players. The period ended with the Generals still having the upper hand, leading the Petes 3-1.

The Generals dominated the third period, looking to redeem the lone Petes goal scored in the second period. The number of penalties dwindled in the third period, allowing more scoring opportunities. Anthony Cirelli opened up the third period scoring only 1:52 seconds into the period, the goal was assisted by Michael Dal Colle and Josh Sterk. Less than a minute later, Stephen Desrocher took a shot from the point and did in fact find the back of the net. Aidan Wallace and Tobias Lindberg assisted the goal. The final goal of the night came from Swedish import, Tobias Lindberg, assisted by Joe Manchurek and Stephen Desrocher. All in all, the Generals had another noteworthy game tonight and continue to lead the Eastern Conference with 29 points.
