Anthony Croston tallied one point to lead the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees to a 2-0 victory over the Lone Star Brahmas.
Rio Grande Valley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Killer Bees was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Rio Grande Valley gives up 2.2 goals on average per game. The Killer Bees put 26 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.5 they average per game.
Rio Grande Valley also got points from Sean Mostrom, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Rio Grande Valley received assists from Tyler Bruneteau, who had one and Evan Schmidbauer, who had two.
Lone Star's offense operated below it season average. The Brahmas average 2.1 goals per game. The 22 shots that Lone Star put on net surpassed the Brahmas' average of 16.4 shots per game this season. Lone Star's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Brahmas finished with 24 penalty minutes.
Lone Star was led by Jan Hudecek, who took three shots.
Nick Schmit recorded 22 saves for Rio Grande Valley. The Killer Bees incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. TJ Black made 24 saves for the Brahmas on 26 shots.
