Austin Bruins News Release
The Austin Bruins (18-10-1) were swept for just the second time this season, this time by the Brookings Blizzard (7-16-6), as the Bruins were defeated 4-1 Saturday night at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings, a night after falling 3-1 at home to the Blizzard.
Brookings jumped out to an early lead on their home ice, when a Christian Fosse (Lillehammer, Norway) shot ricocheted off of Beau Michaud s (Cloquet, MN) skate past Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN) at 4:35 of the first period. At the midway point of the frame, a bouncing puck in the Bruins slot wound up on the stick of Blizzard rookie Ryan Sete (Jackson, MI) at the edge of the crease. Sete scored for the second time this weekend to make it 2-0 after one.
Austin heavily outshot Brookings in the second period (17-6), but only managed one goal. Cory Dunn (Trenton, MI) scored his first career goal for Austin on the power-play on a one-timer from the slot to cut the lead in half. The Blizzard answered back quickly at even-strength when Conrad Sampair (White Bear Lake, MN) whistled a wrist shot into the top shelf from the right circle to head into the second intermission leading 3-1.
Brookings added some insurance on a 5-on-3 power-play in the third period, when Brandon Parker (Fairbault, MN) fired a one-timer up high past Lehr from the point to make it 4-1. It went into the books as the only official shot for Brookings in the third period. New goaltender Conor Girard (Edina, MN) stole the show again for the Blizzard, making 40 saves in the win. Lehr stopped 13 Blizzard shots in the loss.
Next weekend, the Bruins travel up to Richfield Friday for their first ever meeting with the expansion Minnesota Magicians. Game time is scheduled for 7:30pm and can be seen on fasthockey.com. Then Saturday, the Bruins return home to host the Minnesota Wilderness at 7:05pm at Riverside Arena. That game will be on fasthockey.com and also on 1480AM KAUS.
