Ringo Homers in Chiefs 5-4 Win

PEORIA, IL- Justin Ringo hit his fourth home run of the year among three runs batted in as the Peoria Chiefs beat the Quad Cities River Bandits 5-4 on Saturday night. The Chiefs are 6-2 in the second half and 43-34 overall.

Quad Cities scored a run in the first inning against Chiefs starter Blake McKnight. James Ramsay led off with a double up the first base line. Marc Wik laid down a sacrifice bunt and the throw by Chiefs catcher Steve Bean pulled Ringo off the first base bag. With runners at the corners, Brett Phillips hit a sacrifice fly to score Ramsay.

The Chiefs took the lead with a pair of runs in the third. Vaughn Bryan led off with a single and stole second. CJ McElroy Jr. doubled him in to tie the game and took third when Phillips in right field mishandled the ball. Ringo ripped the first pitch of his at bat to right for a 2-1 Chiefs lead as McElroy scored.

Peoria got three more runs in the fifth. Bryan was hit by a pitch and McElroy drilled a double in the left-center gap to plate Bryan. Ringo followed by depositing a home run over the wall in right field to open up a 5-1 Chiefs advantage.

The River Bandits scored a run in the sixth as Phillips drew a one-out walk. He scored when Ronnie Mitchell singled and Richy Pedroza threw away the relay throw trying to catch Phillips rounding second too far.

Quad Cities scored again in the eighth, against relief pitcher Chris Perry, as Ramsay led off with a triple and scored on Wik's ground out to make the score 5-3 Chiefs. Zach Loraine came in to try to pick up the save in the ninth but allowed leadoff singles to Mitchell and Tyler White. Jon Kemmer lined a double off the top of the first base bag to score Mitchell and the Bandits had runners at second and third trailing 5-4 and nobody out. Loraine got a strikeout of Brett Booth on three pitches, a ground out to third by Thomas Lindauer and a ground out to second by Ramsay to give the Chiefs the 5-4 win.

McKnight (4-6) pitched the first six innings allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts to earn the win. Perry followed with two innings allowing a run on a hit with three strikeouts. Loraine pitched the ninth inning allowing a run on three hits with a strikeout to get his seventh save.
