Right Wing Hemingway Named Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month & CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for Mar

Peoria, Ill. (April 7, 2004) – The ECHL announced today that Peoria Rivermen right wing Colin Hemingway is the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for March and was also selected as the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month.

Hemingway shared C&T Hockey Products ECHL Plus Performer of the Month honors, announced over the weekend, with teammate Tyler Rennette.

In his first professional season, the 23-year-old Hemingway led the ECHL in March with 14 goals, 24 points and a plus/minus rating of +19 in 14 games. He also led the Rivermen with two shorthand goals.

Selected in the eighth round (221st overall) by the St. Louis Blues in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hemingway had seven multiple-point games in March and scored a point in all but one of the 14 games he played during the month. He had a seven-game point streak with 14 points (7g, 7a) from February 27-March 12 with 10 points (6g, 4a) coming over five games to open March, and he closed out the regular season with a nine-game point streak with 16 points (9g, 7a) from March 14-April 2. He scored his first professional hat trick and a career-high four points in a 5-2 win against Toledo on March 5 and had a career-high three assists in a 4-3 win in Cincinnati on March 24.

The 6-foot and 195-pound Hemingway tied for second among ECHL rookies in plus/minus for the season with +29 while finishing, while tallying 44 points (20g, 24a), seven power play points (2g, 5a), two shorthand points (2g) and three game-winning goals in 36 regular season games the Rivermen. He also played two games with the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Worcester IceCats, registering two goals in 13 games.

Hemingway played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire scoring 147 points (67g, 80a) in 139 games. As a junior in 2001-2002, he finished fourth in the nation with a career-high and team-leading 66 points, while also leading the team and finishing third in the nation with a career-best 33 goals; he ranked second on the team with a career-high 33 assists in 40 games. During his career, New Hampshire captured two Hockey East regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Championship game, where it lost 5-1 to Minnesota, his senior year (2002-2003).

The Rivermen take on the defending Kelly Cup Champion Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies in the first round of the 2004 Kelly Cup Playoffs. Game One of the Northern Division Semifinals is Wednesday, April 7 at 6:05 p.m. CT at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, NJ. Game Two is Friday, April 9 at 6:05 p.m. CT at Boardwalk Hall. Games Three and Four (if necessary) are in Peoria, Ill. Monday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 13, respectively. Game times are 7:00 p.m. at Carver Arena.
