Peoria's Hemingway Named CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Peoria right wing Colin Hemingway is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for March.

Hemingway was also selected as the Sher-Wood ECHL Player of the Month for March and earlier shared C&T Hockey Products ECHL Plus Performer of the Month honors with teammate Tyler Rennette.

In his first professional season, the 23-year-old Hemingway led the ECHL in March with 14 goals, 24 points and a plus-minus rating of +19 in 14 games and led the Rivermen with two shorthand goals.

Under contract to St. Louis of the National Hockey League, Hemingway had seven multiple-point games in March and scored a point in all but one of the 14 games he played during the month. He had a five-game scoring streak (6g-4a) from March 5-12 and closed out the regular season with a nine-game scoring streak (9g-9a) from March 13-April 2. He scored his first professional hat trick and a career-high four points in a 5-2 win against Toledo on March 5 and had a career-high three assists in a 4-3 win at Cincinnati on March 24.

Selected in the eighth round (221st overall) by St. Louis in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, the 6-0 and 195-pound Hemingway ranked second among ECHL rookies in plus-minus rating with +29 while finishing with 44 points (20g-24a), seven power-play points (5g-2a), two shorthand points (2g-0a) and three game-winning goals in 36 regular season games for Peoria. He also played with Worcester of the American Hockey League in 2003-04 scoring two points (2g-0a) in 13 games.

Hemingway played four seasons at the University of New Hampshire scoring 147 points (67g-80a) in 139 games. As a junior in 2001-02, he finished fourth in the nation with a career-high and team-leading 66 points while leading the team with a career-best 33 goals and ranking second on the team with a career-high 33 assists in 40 games. During his career, New Hampshire captured two Hockey East regular season and tournament titles while also advancing to the NCAA Championship game, where it lost 5-1 to Minnesota, his senior year.
