Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks were downed by the Buffalo Bandits 16-9 at KeyBank Center on Friday night, despite close shots on goal and even scoring after the first half.
Bandit forward Dhane Smith was first on the board early in the game, before Jesse King opened the scoring for Calgary, and took his second of the night minutes later on the Roughnecks power play. Goals remained even through the first half of the game with plenty of chances for both sides. Tanner Cook scored his first NLL career goal early in the second with King on the assist, before the Riggers took the lead with a goal from the far side from Haiden Dickson. Roughnecks captain Curtis Dickson scored his first of the night at the end of the second, to tie to score at 7-7 going into the halftime break.
Seven unanswered goals from Buffalo in the third from Josh Byrne (2), Connor Fields (2), Tehoka Nanticoke, Chase Fraser and Dhane Smith put the win out of reach for Calgary, who were unable to come back in the last half despite three goals from C. Dickson who finished the night with five points (4g 1a).
Calgary outshot Buffalo 55-48. Jesse King was a top performer for the Riggers, finishing with 6 pts (2g 4a). Rookie Tehoka Nanticoke and Dhane Smith each scored a hat trick for the Bandits, with Josh Byrne and Connor Fields both leading the team in goals with four.
The Roughnecks will head to Saskatchewan next weekend for Game 2 against the Rush, before returning to WestJet Field at the Scotiabank Saddledome for the Home Opener presented by TD Bank on Friday, December 17th at 7pm. Tickets on sale via CalgaryRoughnecks.com.
