Riders' Winning Streak Snapped with One-Hit Loss

FRISCO, TEXAS - Arkansas Travelers right-handed pitcher Kyle McGowin remained the only man in the Texas League to knock off the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. He dealt a one-hit shutout and handed the Riders a 3-0 defeat in game two of a doubleheader at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
McGowin, who dealt the RoughRiders (9-2) their other loss on Tuesday in North Little Rock, Arkansas, allowed his only hit on a leadoff single by Ryan Cordell in the bottom of the seventh. The only other baserunner he allowed was on a two-out walk to Zach Cone in the second inning. McGowin finished with just one hit, no runs and tied a career-high with nine strikeouts to pick up his second victory.
The Travelers (4-7) scored twice in the first inning against Frisco starter Jose Leclerc (0-2), courtesy of an RBI single from Cal Towey and a sac fly off the bat of Wade Wass. The Travs added their third run, an unearned marker, against Leclerc in the second on a two-out, RBI double from Alex Yarbrough.
The RoughRiders finish the season-opening homestand Tuesday morning at 11:05 a.m., looking to bounce back and salvage the series against Arkansas. Frisco is scheduled to start left-hander Frank Lopez (1-0, 0.79 ERA), while Arkansas plans to throw right-handed pitcher Victor Alcantara (1-1, 4.82). Tuesday's game is the first Taco Tuesday of the year at Dr Pepper Ballpark, featuring $2 tacos throughout the game, in addition to drink specials.
