Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - For the first time this year, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, lost a series, falling to the Arkansas Travelers 8-7 Tuesday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Zach Cone hit two home runs, but it was not enough to lead the Riders to a victory.

The RoughRiders (9-3) fell behind 7-4 in the fifth inning, but slowly mounted a comeback against the Travelers (5-7) bullpen. After an RBI double by Ryan Cordell in the fifth, Cone followed up with his second home run, a solo homer in the sixth, that brought the Riders to within a run.

But after the Riders tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from Cordell, the Travelers regained the lead in the eighth against reliever Matt Bush (0-1). Cal Towey led off with a triple and scored two batters later on a safety squeeze bunt by Anthony Phillips to put Arkansas back up for good, 8-7. Tyler DeLoach (1-0) earned the win out of the bullpen for Arkansas, while Geoff Broussard retired the Riders in order in the ninth to pick up his first save.

Cone and Cordell led the way with three RBI apiece. Cone hit a two-run homer in the first, while Cordell and Lewis Brinson both hit RBI doubles in a four-run first, but the Riders pitching was not able to protect the lead, as Frisco dropped consecutive games for the first time this season.

The RoughRiders will have Wednesday off before hitting the road to take on the Corpus Christi Hooks in a four-game series. The series starts Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, on the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App. Dr Pepper Pregame Show begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Riders next return home on Monday, April 25 to take on the San Antonio Missions in the beginning of an eight-game homestand, which includes Runner-Up Night on April 26. Tickets for all eight games are available now online at RidersBaseball.com, via email at info@ridersbaseball.com, over the phone at (972) 731-9200, or in-person at the RoughRiders box office.
