Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - The Frisco RoughRiders used a six-run eighth inning to storm back and defeat the Northwest Arkansas Naturals 9-6 on Friday at Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco trailed 4-0 after three innings, but chipped away throughout the contest and finally went ahead with the big frame.

The Riders (4-4, 33-45) trailed until the eighth inning when the squad capitalized on five singles and three walks to score six runs. Drew Robinson tied the game at four with a single to right, Benino Pruneda threw a wild pitch with the bases loaded to put Frisco ahead 5-4 before Luis Mendez and Nick Williams added two-run singles to complete the huge frame.

The Naturals scored four runs in the third inning. Two-run singles from Raul Mondesi and Hunter Dozier gave NW Arkansas a 4-0 lead. Victor Payano relieved Jake Thompson and recorded the final out of the frame to get out of a bases-loaded jam.

Thompson struggled in his final start before joining Team USA in Canada for the Pan-American Games. The Rockwall-native lasted 2 1/3 innings and gave up four runs on four hits and two walks.

Frisco cut into the four-run deficit in the fourth inning. Ryan Cordell and Nomar Mazara started the frame with singles. Alex Burg scored Cordell on a ground out and then Preston Beck notched an RBI-single to score Mazara and the Riders trailed 4-2.

Edwar Cabrera (1-1) tossed two scoreless innings to pick up his first victory of the season. Malcom Culver (2-3) allowed five runs in 1 1/3 innings of work and dropped his third decision for the Naturals (3-5, 43-35). Dozier, a Denton-native, hit a two-run blast in the ninth inning to cut into Frisco's lead, but the Riders held on for the 9-6 victory.

LHP Andrew Faulkner toes the rubber for Frisco at 7:05 on Saturday night as the Riders celebrate Independence Day. The Naturals send LHP Cody Reed to the mound. Fans will be treated to post-game fireworks on July 4 and 5. On July 5, the first 2,000 fans will receive a free Swinging Teddy Bobblehead.
