Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

TULSA, OK - Jharel Cotton retired the first 13 batters he faced Friday night en route to Tulsa's 7th shutout victory of the year, a 5-0 decision before 8,724 fans at ONEOK Field.

Adrian Houser, a native of Locust Grove, OK, matched Cotton zero for zero through the first four frames. With two away in the fifth, former Hook Ronald Torreyes ripped a triple to the alley in right, plating a pair.

Tulsa (5-3, 35-42) expanded its lead in the sixth despite Houser getting the first two outs quickly. Kyle Farmer doubled down the left-field line and Peter Lavin reached on an error. With Jarek Cunningham at the plate, Lavin took off for second. Catcher Roberto Pena fired a strike to the bag, forcing Lavin to reverse course. While chasing after Lavin, second baseman Leo Heras threw wildly to the plate, allowing Farmer to score.

Cunningham then cracked a double past Hooks (4-4, 52-26) third baseman Colin Moran, enabling Lavin to cruise home. Jeremy Rathjen made it 5-0 Tulsa with an RBI single to left off Juan Minaya.

Of the five runs charged to Houser (0-2), two were earned. He fanned five and did not walk a batter.

Cotton (2-0) held the Hooks to four hits and struck out seven.

Jacob Rhame fanned four over two perfect frames of relief. Chris Reed, who surrendered a lead-off double to Brett Phillips, escaped the ninth unscathed thanks to a 4-6-3 double play, which ended the game.

The series will be decided Saturday night. Direct from his second big-league stint, Michael Feliz (1-2, 4.03) gets the ball for Corpus Christi. Tulsa counters with Jose De Leon (2-2, 3.60).
