FRISCO, TEXAS - After matching a season-high with 11 runs Saturday, the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, were shut out 5-0 by the Springfield Cardinals in the series finale Sunday evening at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

In his Double-A debut, Springfield (30-26) starter Luke Weaver (1-0) held the RoughRiders (32-22) scoreless in 7 1/3 innings pitched. The righty allowed just four hits and struck out a career-high 10 batters while throwing 87 pitches, 62 for strikes, in the win. Weaver is the No. 3 prospect in the Cardinals organization, according to MLBPipeline.com.

Springfield scored three of its four runs in the top of the third inning against Rangers No. 4 prospect (MLBPipeline.com) Luis Ortiz (1-2). Bruce Caldwell broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single, and Luke Voit drove in two more with a base hit two batters later. Ortiz exited the game after Voit's two-out single, lasting just 2 2/3 innings in his third start with Frisco. The Cardinals scored a pair of late runs to pad the lead, including a solo homer by Harrison Bader in the ninth, his fourth in six games against the Riders this season.

The Riders managed five hits in the contest, but they came in five different innings, and Frisco had just one man in scoring position. Ronnie Shaban worked 1 2/3 innings of relief to complete the shutout for the Cardinals.

Although the Riders were denied the sweep, they still earned a series victory, taking two of three games from the Cardinals. Frisco has won nine of its 16 first-half series.

The RoughRiders have an off-day Monday and then begin a four-game road series at San Antonio on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Righty Connor Sadzeck (5-2, 3.56 ERA) is scheduled to make the start for the RoughRiders against right-hander Bryce Morrow (1-7, 6.34 ERA). Fans can listen for free on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.

The Riders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark for a nine-game homestand beginning Saturday, June 11, which is Vulcan Salute to Star Trek Night. The highly anticipated Choctaw Lazy River is also scheduled to be open during the homestand.
