Holmes Pitches Hooks to Series Win

SPRINGDALE, AR - Brian Holmes struck out a season-high eight batters over five shutout innings, and the Hooks held on for a 3-2 victory over the Hooks Sunday afternoon at Arvest Ballpark.

Corpus Christi (34-21) permitted 11 runs during its 5-1 road trip. The Hooks have won six of their last eight series.

Holmes (4-2) permitted just three hits, two by Corey Toups, and one walk, throwing 50 of 64 pitches for strikes.

Derek Fisher put Corpus Christi on the board with a two-out RBI single, scoring Nick Tanielu.

The Hooks added two more runs in the fourth against Ashton Goudeau (1-2). James Ramsay opened the frame with a home run to right field, his third round-tripper of the year. Alfredo Gonzalez followed with a double and later scored on Alejandro Garcia's single to left field.

The Naturals (27-28) got a pair of runs (one earned) from Cy Sneed over the sixth and seventh innings.

Brendan McCurry struck out one in a perfect ninth to secure his Texas League leading 12th save. McCurry has struck out 43 batters in 33 innings this year.

The Hooks are off Monday before opening an eight-game homestand Tuesday night. Keegan Yuhl (4-1, 2.79) is slated to face Midland's Daniel Gossett (0-1, 5.14). Click here for a full rundown of the festivities at Whataburger Field.
