Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release

Saskatchewan Roughrider General Manager/VP of Football Operations Eric Tillman announced today they have signed import defensive lineman Andrew Browning and non-import defensive back Donnie Ruiz to contracts. Financial terms of the signings were not disclosed.

Browning, 6'0 278 lbs, has spent the last four seasons at Boise State. He started 13 games in his final season and had 40 tackles, ten tackles for losses, and eight quarterback sacks. The 22-year old was named first team All-WAC athletically and academically in his senior season and second team All-WAC in his junior season. He was also named Boise State's Most Outstanding Defensive Lineman two years in a row.

"Andrew was an outstanding player at Boise State. He is a high-energy guy who plays every snap like it's the final series of a championship game," stated Tillman. "Andrew's size, quickness and athletic ability make him perfectly suited for the CFL."

"With Andrew, Marcus (Adams) and Jermaine (Haley), we're going to have one heck of a competition for the vacant spot at defensive tackle."

Ruiz re-signs with the Riders even though he was a free agent. The defensive back dressed in 14 regular season games for the Green and White last season, while starting two games at safety. The 30-year old finished the year with four defensive tackles, nine special teams tackles and an interception.

"We're happy to have Donnie back. He's a top-notch character guy, and his ability to play safety and cornerback provides us with valuable flexibility in the secondary."
