
Esks mourn passing of Bob Dean

(Edmonton) Bob Dean, who starred on the Eskimos' "Three-in-a-Row" Grey Cup winning teams of 1954 - '56, died Thursday, May 10 in Edmonton.
Best known for kicking the winning convert in the '54 Grey Cup following Jackie Parker's touchdown return of Chuck Hunsinger's fumble, Dean played his college ball at the University of Maryland and spent a season with the Washington Redskins before traveling north to join the Esks. In just three seasons with Edmonton, Dean made a name for himself as a fierce competitor who played his best in clutch situations.
Following his playing career, the Pittsburgh native made Edmonton his home and he would go on to a long career as a well-respected teacher, principal and school administrator. He also served as Chairman of the Edmonton Police Commission.
The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club is one of the most successful teams in CFL history with 13 Grey Cup championships and a North American pro-sports record of 34 consecutive years in the playoffs. A community-owned team, the Eskimos pride themselves on giving back to the community that has supported the organization throughout its illustrious history.
