Saskatchewan Roughriders News Release
The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced today they have signed import defensive end David Veikune to the roster. Financial details of the signing were not released.
Veikune (6'3 - 270lbs) was a second pick (52nd overall) by the Cleveland Browns in the 2009 NFL Draft. He appeared in ten games with the Browns his rookie year before ending the season early due to an injury. In 2010 he signed with the Denver Broncos but was waived later that year.
The 25-year-old played college at the University of Colorado Boulder before transferring to Fresno City College for a year before finishing up his college career at the University of Hawaii Manoa. In 2007 he was named a first team ALL-WAC selection and led the WAC in sacks with seven. In 2008, he earned a 2nd team ALL-WAC selection after he was the team's third leading tackler with 73 and was among the WAC's leaders with 16.5 tackles for loss and nine sacks. In 2009 he was invited to play in the Senior Bowl.
* The Riders have also released import wide receiver L.J. Castile from the roster.
