Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders carried a one-run lead into the seventh inning, but ultimately fell to the Midland RockHounds at Riders Field Thursday night, 6-3. Riders starter Zak Kent tossed four hitless innings in his Thursday start, striking out five batters and walking two.
With Frisco (8-7, 44-40) leading 3-2 into the seventh inning, the RockHounds (12-3, 43-41) rattled off four runs in the final three innings to close out Thursday's game.
Frisco's top four hitters combined for five of the team's nine hits in the Thursday loss, as Midland now leads this week's series, two-games-to-one.
Riders center fielder Kellen Strahm stretched his active on-base streak to 29 games Thursday night, reaching in his final three at-bats with two hits and a walk.
Frisco designated hitter Blaine Crim led Frisco's offense with a 2-for-4 night and delivered the lone run-scoring hit in the bottom of the fifth.
After a pitcher's duel held the first four innings scoreless, the RockHounds struck the scoreboard first for the first time this week with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Midland center fielder Chase Calabuig.
The RoughRiders answered the bell in the bottom of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly from first baseman Dustin Harris and a Crim RBI single to tie Thursday's game, 2-2.
Frisco took a one-run lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on another sacrifice fly, this time from left fielder Sandro Fabian to score Strahm and give the Riders a 3-2 lead.
Midland loudly erased the deficit with back-to-back home runs in the top of the seventh from catcher Kyle McCann and right fielder Shane Selman to take a 4-3 lead. After Midland scored again in the eighth, Selman slugged his second home run of the night and his eighth of the year in the top of the ninth to end the night's scoring at 6-3.
The six-game series continues on Friday night at Riders Field as RHP Tim Brennan (2-3, 3.09 ERA) takes the mound for the 7:05 p.m. start against Midland RHP Matt Milburn (3-6, 6.06 ERA).
