Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Former Riders outfielder Elier Hernandez made his Major League debut with the Texas Rangers on Thursday, July 14th, against the Seattle Mariners.

In his debut, Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two singles and a runs scored in the Rangers' 6-5 defeat.

Hernandez played 16 games for the RoughRiders in 2021 after signing a free agent contract with the Rangers organization in the offseason. He was then promoted to Triple-A Round Rock on June 10th, where he finished out the year and began in 2022 as well. With Frisco, Hernandez hit .228/.313/.246 with seven RBIs.

Before getting the call to Arlington, Hernandez was batting .295/.364/.546, slugging 11 home runs and knocking in 35 over 62 games with Triple-A Round Rock.

A former international signee out of the Dominican Republic by the Kansas City Royals, Hernandez made his stateside debut in 2012 and made it as far as Triple-A Omaha in 2019 before electing free agency.

Hernandez becomes the 181st former Riders player to make his major league debut, joining Christian Lopes, Jacob Lemoine, Josh Smith, Ezequiel Duran and Steele Walker to become the sixth former RoughRiders player to crack the majors in 2022.
